Precision Meets Safety

Vibration monitoring for impact detacher

The MIAG „VPAE“ impact detacher is a versatile and powerful machine that has been specially developed for dissolving flour flakes during the grinding process. It can also be used as a stand-alone grinding machine to increase the efficiency and quality of the production process.

The product is either transported into the machine in free fall from above or pneumatically sucked in from below. Inside, a rotating disc equipped with robust, bolted pins accelerates and crushes the material. Additional pins attached to the rigid housing of the machine reinforce this effect and ensure uniform and thorough processing.

The centrifugal force generated carries the crushed product outwards, where it leaves the machine via the tangential product outlet. There it is extracted pneumatically and made available for further processing. This sophisticated design guarantees efficient and reliable crushing that meets the requirements of modern production processes.

Monitoring Target

The production of flour involves a constant risk of explosion, which depends largely on the concentration of the flour-air mixture. High-speed machines pose a particular risk in this regard, as they can generate potential ignition sources in the event of malfunctions, such as imbalance. These manifest themselves in the form of sparking or overheated surfaces, which can lead to dangerous situations.

In addition, vibration monitoring enables continuous monitoring of the machine condition, especially the bearings. Early maintenance and repair measures can be initiated to increase operational safety and avoid unplanned downtime.

ATEX Requirements

In 95% of applications, the use of ATEX-compliant sensors is required, as most machines are operated in potentially explosive environments. For the remaining 5% of applications where ATEX certification is not mandatory, MIAG nevertheless uses only ATEX sensors. This strategy simplifies warehousing and installation, as there is no need to use different sensor types, while at the same time ensuring uniform safety standards.

Risks and Preventive Measures

Imbalances can be caused by baked-on product, damage to the rotor, or problems with the machine‘s bearings. These imbalances either develop gradually and worsen over time or occur suddenly.

HAUBER-Elektronik vibration sensors continuously monitor the machine‘s vibrations and detect deviations from normal vibration behavior at an early stage. As soon as the measured values exceed the specified limits, this indicates an imbalance. This can not only cause further damage to the machine, but also indicate serious damage if there is an exponential increase. In such cases, it is crucial to take the machine out of operation immediately in order to avoid major damage and safety risks.

Measurement Parameters

The vibration velocity is measured in mm/s to monitor the vibration behavior of the machine. Each machine has a specific fundamental vibration that is considered uncritical during normal operation. Exceeding these limits, depending on the absolute vibration velocity and the rate of increase, requires specific measures to prevent damage and safety risks.

Limit Values

The limit values are set individually for each machine. This is done during commissioning, as the standard vibration behavior can vary depending on the machine and operating conditions. This customized setting ensures precise and reliable monitoring.

Sensor Placement

The sensor is mounted directly on the machine housing, aligned at 90° to the drive shaft. It is mounted using an M8 thread, while the electrical connection is made via an M12 plug. This positioning enables optimal vibration detection and reliable monitoring of the machine status.
